Hand Carved Leaf Frog in Spalted beech or Walnut
I have always had a love of frogs for the many varied colourful and interesting shapes they have. However it was after a visit to the Vivarium at Manchester Museum that I started making frog carvings as I was introduced to the fringed leaf frog.
Active at night, they sleep during the day, and these carving are my representation of such frogs hanging around on leaves, making their shadows as small as possible to be undetected.
Each one is unique with differences in size, the wood texture and the fringes on their legs just as in nature.
After carving the wood is given a danish oil and wax polish finishes it off.
